Teaching Philosophy
As an art teacher, my main goal is to cultivate an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive, regardless of their abilities or previous experience of the arts.

Inclusivity is the cornerstone of my teaching philosophy. I firmly believe that art should be accessible to all. I am committed to creating a learning environment where students feel empowered to express their unique perspectives through art, and feel respected and safe in the process.

To support this, I employ the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approach, and aim to implement differentiation strategies that tailor my teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of each student. I strive to ensure that every student can excel in and meaningfully engage with their work.

In my classroom, I follow the Constructivist Learning approach and embrace student-centered learning. I believe that students should be active participants in their own learning and meaningful engagement occurs through experimentation, mistake making and reflection. I am a big-believer in student-teacher collaboration and feel that students have the ability to share their own knowledge just as well as the teacher.

In this digital visual culture, critical and creative thinking skills are crucial. I aim to assist students with their development of these skills in order to navigate and interpret the visual culture that surrounds them. I am dedicated to equipping students with the skills necessary to analyse, critique and translate the constant visual imagery that intrudes into their daily lives.

Overall I feel that the holistic development of a student can be fostered through Visual Art, and it is my goal as a teacher to foster this development.
